TAKING A STAND!
Why am I doing this? Because I had enough. Because
we had enough. I am sick and tired of hearing this kind of stuff: “thin is in” or even worse: “Look at her,
isn’t she gorgeous” (pointing at someone who is either half naked or completely under weight).
Although I would like to think that the entertainment industry has no idea of the effects they are causing, I am very
aware that is not the truth. If they weren’t aware of the impact they are causing on people -especially teens-, why
would they keep on going? And here we walk in. We have seen lots of campaigns standing out. We have seen a campaign that is
willing to spread the truth about the effects of the use of tobacco, another campaign that is out to stop the sexual exploitation
of kids, another one to feed the hungry people of Africa, another to stop discrimination against Hispanic citizens, another
campaign fighting for the rights of minorities, the people who are out to help the patients of AIDS, Cancer, and so on and
on and on. Even if my judgment and morals allow me to agree with many of the mentioned above, I have to point out that the
battle to promote self-esteem, moral values, self-respect, etc, is almost unknown. We as a mass are becoming quiet- passive
narrators willing to tell the story but not to give it a little twist. But we are now taking a stand. We are not only twisting
the story a little bit, we are making a brand-new story.

What exactly are we fighting for?
- We
want to stop media from promoting only images of thin women and men. Us as women or men, we are pretty the way we are. We
do not have to be underweight to be pretty!! There are underweight women and men out there who are pretty, the same way
there are over weight women out there who are pretty. Of course, unhealthy is not our thing. We want to be healthy-happy people.
But in order to be healthy (not underweight, not overweight) we have to start by considering ourselves beautiful. We are who
we are for what is deep inside of us.
- We
are trying to tell the media that liberation and degradation do NOT have to go hand-in-hand. We believe women and men can
be modern and pretty without having to show it all off.
